Yes!!

As a thought experiment, I enjoy coming up with topics. Can I post some of them here? My five for May are ready to go.

As Bone knows, I’ve settled on my categories for May. They will be awesome. I keep coming up with ideas, though, and I thought I’d list a few here in case some of you need inspiration:

Have Gun, Will Travel = portable FPS games (e.g., Faceball 2000, Doom, Ecks vs. Sever, Ice Nine, !etroid Prime Hunters, Medal of Honor Underground, etc.)

The Dawning Days of Digital Distribution = games at least ten years old and that were, at release, only available digitally (e.g., Cave Story, Lost Winds, Braid, etc.)

Prominent Product Placement = games that are (or feature lots of) advertisements (e.g., Cool Spot, Chase the Chuckwagon, Chester Cheetah in Too Cool to Fool, Darkened Syke, Yo! Noid, etc.)

I’ll keep posting here if I come up with any more ideas, and If any of you are so inclined, please feel free to borrow any of these.

Whoo, Have Gun Will Travel is dope.

Since I'm not doing one this year, I'll say my favorite one I came up with as a possible vote was games of Ivalice.

The Games of Ivalice would be a great topic. Someone (not me...mine are all set) should go for it!

.....

Here are a few more ideas:

Saturday Morning Cartoons! - Video games based on animated TV shows. Some examples are Animaniacs, Batman: The Animated Series, Ducktales, The Flintstones, Goof Troop, Tiny Toon Adventures, Wacky Races, etc. Animated films don’t count, though; so, you can put aside any hope of playing Aladdin or Bebe’s Kids!

De-Make Video Games Great Again - Games ported from more powerful hardware to less powerful hardware. Certainly, there are a lot of arcade ports in this category, but just about any NES to Gameboy or Genesis to Game Gear port would fit too. (The Gameboy Color ports of Contra III and Dragon’s Lair are fantastic examples.) A lot of Wii ports of popular PS3 and Xbox 360 would fit too. This category could even be stretched to include games like Mega Man Xtreme, Mighty Final Fight, Street Fighter 2010, or TMNT Tournament Fighters that, while not necessarily de-makes, are still iterations of games originally developed for more powerful hardware re-developed for popular less powerful hardware to capitalize on a series’ popularity.

Thanks, Noise!

Here’s one more I thought of last night...although, maybe, someone already tried this?

Unlicensed to Thrill - Unlicensed games. Some of these games are pretty bad (e.g., Action 52, Super Noah’s Ark 3D, etc.), but surprisingly, some are pretty great too (e.g., Fantastic Dizzy, Micro Machines, Star Control, Ultimate Stuntman). Head to your local black market, pick some games from a shady dealer, and have fun!

Some themes I was considering but which won't make the cut:

Made in Blighty - Games made by British developers such as Rockstar/DMA design, Lionhead, Bullfrog, Rareware, Psygnosis, Eidos, Core Design. Examples include Tomb Raider, Theme Park, Banjo-Kazooie, Lemmings, Unirally, Dizzy, Wipeout and more.

Pac it all in - Pac-Man games that aren't Pac-Man or Ms. Pac-Man. Examples include Pac-Man 2, Pacman World, Pac-Attack, Pac n Roll, Pac Pix, Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness, Pac In Time, Pac Land, Pac-Man Vs and Pac-Man Fever.

I'm actually sad to drop these ones, I wish I could do all the themes I've come up with so far. I still have another 6 I'm quite attached to as well

I was thinking of making a Together Retro Vs where everyone could try to go against each other every month, either via fighting games or hi scores on arcade games. Unfortunately no prize other than bragging rights but it seems like it'd be fun.
