Possible licensed platformers I have on deck: Little Nemo: The Dream Master, The Great Circus Mystery Starring Mickey & Minnie, Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse, Batman.

"Zelda clones" may have seemed like the obvious #1 choice for me, but let's be honest, I was gonna play those games anyway.

Since I am the member who actually came up with the idea of "themed" TR months, I demand request to be allowed to choose the theme of March.

Do we already have someone doing February, or do you have some specific game-themed reason you wanna do March?

I approve of your poll not employing first past the post voting.

I voted for Treasure and Licenses. I don't know that I like the idea of a category in the vein of "Zelda clones," only because I foresee a lot of unnecessary argument about what constitutes a Zelda clone, and what genre Zelda even belongs to. Also, wouldn't it exclude actual Zelda games?

I think more binary criteria, without much room for interpretation, would make for better themes. It's (generally) easy to verify whether a game has a particular publisher, developer, director, or license attached to it; not as easy to figure out if one game is similar enough to another game to warrant being labeled a "clone."

Unless the person chosen for the month would also be developing a list of suitable games fitting the theme.

I'm not a huge fan of platformers and I'm not sure what Rare game I would play (lot of the ones I've tried I don't like and I'm not sure how good N64 emulation is anyway), so I voted Treasure and Zelda clones.

Apparently I'm among the minority for Zelda clones though. That one sounds the most fun to me haha.

I also voted for Zelda clones, as I think it not only sounds wonderfully fun, but probably covers the most ground release date wise. You can go all the way back to '87, or you can play Ittle Dew 2 which just came out this year! That also means almost every console will have something viable for that month. :)

I don't see this being an issue. Our current issue is that no one is participating. I feel like even if someone showed up to 2D Zelda month playing Dark Souls, we'd still all just continue to discuss the more on-topic games, and be happy to have more participation. Maybe thats just too optimistic of me though

But you posted your idea the page after I suggested themes ;)

I still want you to pick a month though <3

I'm going to leave this open until Friday night US time (I'll close it Saturday morning UK time). At the minute Licensed platformers is in the elad, but it's not completely unrealistic for one of the other categories to overtake or for people to change their votes.

Current scores (including Dunpeals votes)

Treasure games - 10
Rareware games - 6
Zelda clones - 9
Licensed platformers - 15
