Same here. I just got an MSX2. Anyone have anything to say about that version?

I'm not especially excited about this game. BUT, there is a free PC remake, which is the version I'd be prone to check out.

planetmule.com

though... the site won't load for me right now. So I guess I'm off the hook.

I'm not much for strategy games but do remember playing this quickly ages ago without realising its significance. Would quite like to try it again and at least get my head around the basics.

Will probs emulate the NES version on my Wii.

NES port. Always good for a good time. I like playing as the human who gets less cash, and I only play on the Standard mode.

Don't forget to hunt the Wumpus!

After years of playing it on the Beginner mode, there's a lot more to this than one would think. Supply and demand are constantly changing, and that adds a lot more depth and strategy to this game.

So, for the first time in a long time, here's my first playthrough report.

M.U.L.E Playthrough #1 "If You Can't Beat Them, Join Them"

My Color: Blue
My Character: Mechtron

Month 1
Green buys plot for sale.
Orange was bitten by bat lizard. Loses $100.
Sunspot Activity (Energy Output Increased!)
I was in 3rd place with $1673.

Month 2
I bought the plot for sale. (on the riverbed -- more food production!)
The solar collectors on Green's Energy MULEs were dirty. Lost $25.
Pest Attack! Purple's food was taken. As a result, I sold food to him at a high price.
I was in 1st place with $2184.

Month 3
No takers on the plot for sale.
Acid Rain Storm (Food production up, energy production down)
I was in 1st place with $3506.

Month 4
No new plots for sale.
Orange's MULE was declared BEST BUILT at colony fair. Earns $100.
PIRATE SHIP stole all the Smithore!
I was in 1st place with $4190.

Month 5
I bought the plot for sale. (flatland -- for energy!)
Orange's MULE won the colony tap dancing contest. Earns $200.
PIRATE SHIP came back for seconds. Stole all the Smithore!
I was in 1st place with $5516.

Month 6
I bought 2 plots for sale. (mountains -- smithore!)
Purple received 2 bars of smithore for helping a planetary visitor.
Orange received a package from his homeworld with 3 food and 2 energy units.
Green won the colony swamp eel eating contest and received $100.
Due to the pirate attacks, colony was down to *1* MULE at the end of this month.
FIRE IN STORE. All stock is lost!
We were able to sell 35 units of Smithore to the store at nearly $150 a pop. Nice!
I was in first place with $7967.

Month 7
Orange bought the plot for sale.
One of my MULEs lost a bolt. Repair was $150!
MULEs cost $290 due to all the events going on.
Acid Rain Storm #2 (Food up, energy down)
I was in first place with $9545.

Month 8
Orange bought a plot and purple bought a plot, both for sale.
Meteorite strike took out one of my energy plots!
I was in first place with $10846.

Month 9
My mining MULEs wore out from heavy use. I lose $600!
Green's house-roof was eaten by cat-bugs. Loses $300.
Green loses a MULE due to radiation.
Due to Smithore stocks being replenished, MULEs now cost $80.
I was in first place with $11781.

Month 10
Green finds a dead moose-rat and sells hide for $150.
FIRE IN STORE #2. All stock lost!
CPU opponents were stockpiling Smithore for a time like this. 235 units sold to store!
BUT, I was able to sell my surplus food for nearly $200 each (no stock in store)
I was STILL in first place with $14553.

Month 11
Purple receives $300 from deceased relative.
Planetquake! (Mining production cut in half)
I was in first place with $16150.

Month 12
Transport ship returns!

Final results (The colony failed overall, due to constant shortages of food & energy.)

Good run Exedeyes.

Ack and I are playing tomorrow night, I think I am the only one out of our group of four who has played it before. So hopefully we will have a write up after the second match - the first one or two will be full of mistakes by all parties.
