SHOCKTOBER TR: HORROR Themed Game - Nomininations...GO!
Re: SHOCKTOBER TR: The Longest Journey or HORROR themed gam
What I don't see about having a horror month when there's other genres out there that got more votes for their games is that 2 good genres (Adventure/FPS) that got higher votes and much more interest are gonna be bumped off. From what I saw in the original thread, there was a very lukewarm response to many of the nominations. We played all the big name series like Splatterhouse, Resident Evil, and Silent Hill now, there's just not much else there.

And it looks like horror is leading.
I really think horror just got lost in the shuffle. It was such a big task just to narrow down the list, that no one probably cared enough to pimp up a horror game. There certainly seems to be demand for it even if we've barely dabbled with the genre discussion wise.

Fair enough, and I know there's tons more horror than just the survival horror type, but I don't see why we have to knock off ANY genre on the calendar that had more votes in the original nomination thread in favor of a horror game that is the same genre. What if a horror platformer or a horror puzzle or a genre that has horror characteristics but already has a genre on the calendar wins? We have to bump off the more popular choice? That is what I fear is going to happen here.

Like I said earlier, I think you could qualify Oddworld as a horror themed game as much as something like Zombies Ate My Neighbors.
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

Then you don't know anything about those games.
There's plenty of point and click adventure horror games. The best of both worlds!

I've played both of the PS1 Oddworld's through twice and they're some of my favorite platformers of that era so I don't see how that means I don't know anything about them. They're way more tense and scary than ZAMN, which was picked for this years TR horror month. It doesn't compare to a real horror game, but the setting and story of the (good) Oddworld games are very gruesome for a kid's game and the gameplay complements it perfectly (unarmed and helpless player character, most of the game is kept running away from monsters (often just barely escaping), hiding in shadows etc).
I'd rather have less well known adventure horror game like Dark Seed, I have no Mouth and I must Scream or Sanitarium nominated, but since Oddworld is one of the most voted games on the list, I figured this would be a way to kill two birds with one stone and make room for other games in other months.
Project Firestart&Sweet Home would also make a nice historical double feature

I remember that name, i remember there was remake of it on the works. The remake looks interesting and the C64 version actually let me surprised.
I was going to suggest Uninvited on the NES or the white chamber on the pc... though i don't know if the last can be considered retro.

considering how poorly Deja Vu was received during TR, I'd bet Uninvited would get passed up.

It's weird to say after we just played Zork, but I feel if we do another Adventure game we should go for something a little more modern - early 90s stuff, where Adventure games started to get a bit fairer

I'd agree AJ. On that note, I'd be all for I Have No Mouth... during "Shocktober," and maybe a double-feature with Blood so that we had two very different experiences for the month.
