Progress today:

- Bought the best board and a whole mess of stat points
- Cleared all non-point VB challenges (transfers were the worst)
- Went back and got 1st place in France
- Went back and got all point challenges on School II (still need to get cash)
- Realized that the 2nd competition is gonna be much harder with lack of good grinds

Getting better!

Went back and found all the cash on the first 3 areas, so now all of them are at 100%. Also got 1st and 2nd on Plywood Paradise -- Philly is next. All my stats nearly maxed out. I can hardly believe what a putz I was at this game on April 1st, and now I'm getting runs of 150,000 and up. What a difference a month makes!

Of course, I've also been the only one playing it for the past 10 days it seems. Kinda defeats the Together Retro purpose  I know a lot of people probably bought it back in the day and beat it already. I guess it needs to be an RPG to keep everyone active. I thought this year's calendar was pretty good, but it looks like a lot more involvement in previous years. I've got 10-15 new GBA games in the past 2 weeks and I've just been doing THPS

Yeah, I'm one of those who's had the game for years, so even though I've been playing it for TR, I finished half the game in one sitting. I'll get back to it and finish it up though, honest!

Glad you're seeing some improvement in your game though! Once it clicks, you only get better, and you'll never completely lose it.

After you finish this one, be sure to check out 3 and 4 as well (and maybe the first Underground), as they start to add more moves that allow you to connect combos better. Million point combos become very possible.

I might add that, even though as I've said earlier I didn't play THPS2 this month, with all this talking about skateboarding I ended up adding another THPS to my collection, namely the first one I missed back in the day: THPS4 :D

Yeah, figured this might be a good time to finally try that out. It's fun to play nowadays, knowing that it was the last "classic" THPS, but back then I can see why I passed on it, too much like THPS3 for my liking. Still, had a good time with, even though I think they really raised the difficulty bar, some of those missions seem impossible even for a semi-pro like me. On the other hand, we can unlock Eddie (up the irons!!!) and Jango Fett, so...that kinda evens it out :D Good game, enjoyed it a lot.

I've been watching insanely good runs on YouTube to try and get better. I'd love to try the other games out, I'm fairly hooked on it now :)

yeah I beat it really quick because I was so familiar. I also beat THPS3 in 2 nights, and am very close to beating the first game already this month.

Not sure if I'm going to 100% the game but I'll definitely be beating it today.

Cleared Philly today -- will try to finish Mexico on Monday. My first month-long TR

So basically you play through one you beat them all?

On the final day of the TR for this game, it is finished.

Image

Managed a 120K (91.0) first run, then doubled it with a buzzer beating 240K (92.8 ) second run featuring a 10X grind combo that went about 15 seconds after the time ran out. I totally bombed the final run, scoring a big fat 0 but it did not matter. I got the gold.

To me, this game really exemplified what the Together Retro program is all about. Take games that people aren't familiar with and get them to play.

And with this, I can finally say I went from a zero to a hero in a title I would really have had absolutely no experience at all playing coming from someone with a shmup and arcade/pinball background who had the tenacity and drive to complete a game like this in 30 days. This victory is a very personal one for me and one I am extremely proud of. Thank you all for your help and sharing what you could with me here.

With that.... on to the next month and Wolf 3D! Looking forward to revisiting this old classic one again.
