I have Raystorm on Taito Legends 2.
I did have Elemental Gearbolt but sold it. Silhouette I have. But I don't consider either shmups (they're borderlines of course).
Do you have a plan laid out for what you want to acquire? Is there a type of shmup you prefer? (Hori / Vert, Bullet Hell, Cute em' up, Gorgeous graphics, Soundtrack, Mega Bosses, Intricate Scoring system, etc)
Honestly, just good shmups. I prefer scrolling -- and prefer vertical over horizontal, but will play both. I have a shorter list of ones I already know I like (Choas Field, Salamander, Raiden Project for instance), and a few that just look awesome (Twinke Star Sprites) and then there's ones like Ibara that I drool over but are very expensive.
But basically, I suck at the genre for the most part. But I also adore it. So I'm really interested in collecting any that I can get my hands on (for Sony systems at this time). Though I'm not really looking for borderlines as much... vertis/horis.
I know you have said you don't always love arcade sticks, one thing i'd point out is that both of the sticks you have (assuming their stock) are better for fighters, both those stock sticks are mocks of the Sanwas, and not bad mocks at that, but you don't want a fight stick for shmups really - you'd want Seimitsu LS32's put in them (very easy to do on the mad catz, not sure on the Namco, but probably). You will appreciate it much more for shooters.
Yeah that's tough. I'm a big fan of stock sticks. I don't really like modding them myself. And I'm at least happy with these two (I also have the Hori Tekken 5 PS2 stick)... which is to say I have no complaints with them. I don't even use sticks for fighters, just shmups, so no idea what's good for what really. But these both have good clicky sticks and they're a good size. I'm not against upgrading in time, but games are higher priority for me now.
I'd love to see you get into some CAVE stuff w/me and Dunpeal and broaden your interest in the scoring aspect.
yeah I think the only Cave I've even played is DDP -- but sadly only on my PSP as the retail wouldn't load up on my PS2 for some reason. For Together Retro I'm planning to get the PSN re-release though and finally play with a stick. Oh and I played a bit of Ibara in the past -- that's Cave right? So awesome.
