Add Super Mario Advance 4 E-Reader Levels?

by fuctfuct Tue Oct 07, 2014 5:14 am

I just completed the game 100%. Is there any way to add the e-reader levels to my save file and play them?

Googled around a bit.. lost..

If you are already playing off your own cartridge then the only way I know of is to actually have an e-reader and the cards. It is possible to print the cards if you have a nice enough printer.

You can read and write savegame files using Pro Action Replay and GameShark. You can download save files from Gamefaqs. I'm sure there's one with the E-reader stuff there

Another option is SendSave - I've never used it myself but heard it works well.

If you want the e-reader stuff on your own savegame, you could extract it, load it into VBA-M and use it's e-reader emulation on e-reader pictures to add the extra stuff, then re-write the save to your cart.

Thanks for the replys. Given where I posted.. i didn't think i needed to specify that i'm not using a cartridge of any kind :)

Looks like i can dl a save and play the levels (Not that that ever actually works for me lol) but i can't find any way to add them to my sav file and have everything in one place.

Where is this option in the emulator? I don't see it.

Actually, I don't recall exactly how I did it and I'm out of town so it's difficult to scan through my backups and bookmarks remotely to find any of that stuff. I remember I found a thread on either GBAtemp or PocketHeaven forums, and it had good scans of the cards. From there I'm drawing a blank...

Try these:

Hmm, might be another interesting project for my Retron 5. I should be able to get the save on my actual cartridge using the linked save file...

Let me know if you figure it out.

I found quite a few saves that are supposed to work by importing them in VBA. This would at least allow me to play the levels. But it never works for me. I just end up with a blank save. Tried using VBA-M v1229 and both RetroArch's newest VBA cores (by converting the .sav to .srm ((gbaconv.exe)) and renaming to match the rom). Maybe i'll try an older version.

Not sure if i can post the save here or not..

Id love to be able to add them to my current save though.

When you have a save with the ereader levels, you need to set the save type to: "Flash 128k". That's probably the missing step for you.

Also, the save file can only hold 32 eReader levels (and I believe there are 38 in total), so no matter what you do, you'll never be able to add them all to your own save file. In order to beat all the levels you need two save files.

It's funny...when you try and help on a forum, you never want to insult with obvious steps (did you restart, check the power cable, try a different rom), because you assume those steps have already been tried.

Ah, first world problems.
