Recommend me a NES emulator for Windows.

Post by migo »

I've tried the following emulators, each has their own problem:

Nessie - works fine but starts eating CPU cycles like mad and starts slowing down to less than 1/8th speed

Nestopia - can't charge the sword in Crystalis

RockNES - won't load the ROM

Mednafen - since it's command line, no obvious way to change keyboard config

MESS - works fine but there's an annoying buzz the whole time

Nester or Nes10.

Nestopia was what I eventually settled on, after trying the highest rated emus a year ago. It handled even the troublesome roms and it was complex enough for me, without burdening me like FCEUltra does with it's unorthodox configuration panels, especially for video.

FCEUltra is probably the most powerful and robust, but yeah, configuration is a PITA.
