Re: No Man's Sky Stories and Tips
I have an almost 4 year old pc. I only upgraded my ramom to 16 gb and it runs fine with a few super tiny dips here and there with everything at medium settings. I think a lot of the problems are for the more modern PCs and graphics cards which they are fixing. Game has crashed 0 times for me in the 21 hours logged.

Re: No Man's Sky Stories and Tips
So I just watched a couple of videos on YouTube bashing No Man's Sky. I can understand people being upset about their game being buggy or freezing, but, it's not like that hasn't happened with a zillion other AAA games before. I'd be upset too, but it's almost to be expected at this point. If years go by without patches/fixes, THEN I would be pissed. Week 1, give this 15-person team a break. But you're damned either way. If they wanted to push back the release date again to work out more bugs, I'd be cool with that. The internet would explode with hatred of another failed release date. But they'll explode with hatred for releasing a game with some bugs. Still, I can understand being upset when you pay $60 for a game and it freezes.
What I can't understand is all the other hate people are throwing on this game. Calling Sean a lair. This game is EXACTLY what I expected it to be from all the interviews with Sean that I've watched before it was released. If you're upset that you paid $60 and "OMG it's boring!!1!" that's your own fault. It's like people read between the lines when they shouldn't have, and seen/heard what they wanted to when they watched preview footage.

Re: No Man's Sky Stories and Tips
No Man's Sky is one of the few games that ended up being EXACTLY as advertised. IIRC, the only multiplayer interaction that was promised was sharing discoveries. I know it was hinted that you'd be able to run into people, and some lower team members made comments to that effect, but I don't remember Sean Murray ever promising actual traditional multiplayer. If that were supposed to be part of the launch game, don't you think they'd have tried to throw the phrase "MMO" in their marketing somewhere?
The game's got a lot of potential for future updates and additions. People need to chill out (which is kind of what you do in the game). It's not something I'll often sink 5 hours in at a time, but I can see myself playing an hour or two most nights.

Actually, quite the opposite, Sean made it perfectly clear that this isn't an MMO. He said that while two players CAN meet up, the chances of it happening are so astronomically that it's basically zero. It shouldn't be an expectation.
I think too many people tried to pick apart things Sean said in various interviews, and fill in gaps with too much speculation. People are acting like they've been deceived.
edit: As far as future updates... When asked about DLC in an interview, Sean gave a definitive no. I don't think he meant that there will never be any updates outside of fixes, I just think he meant there will never be any "The blah blah mission pack" DLC. I'm sure, just like everything else he's said in interviews, the internet will be pissed either way.

Re: No Man's Sky Stories and Tips
Here's one thing that I'm not too crazy about, flight control. Maybe it's just me? I don't find it difficult to fly a ship, but there's certain things that I feel like I don't have good control of. One thing, I wish you could turn your head while your in the cockpit. Either just sitting in your parked ship, or while flying. The only way to look around is by turning your ship. I find that annoying while trying to find stuff on planets, and annoying while I'm in space and just want to look quite to see what's around me.
The other thing I'm having a hard time with is landing. Is there something I'm missing? There's no good indicator to land where you want to. I've landed on landing pads a few times, just by luck. I've intentionally tried to land on pads and failed miserably. Which is annoying because if you're at a trading post you can't trade from your ship cargo if you're not on a pad. But aside from landing pads, sometimes I land my ship a lot further away than I wanted to from something I spotted in the sky. So now I can either waste fuel to take off and land just a bit further, or have to run on foot back and forth to my ship.
So my future update wish list so far (if they don't already exist and I'm just unaware of them) is 1)Be able to turn your head to look around while in the cockpit and 2)Have some sort of indication for easier landing.

Now that there is a mod to change the internal render resolution I am actually ready to play the game for a bit, it was utterly horrid looking with that 720P upscale.

Re: No Man's Sky Stories and Tips
My update wishlist is, in order from most likely to most fantastical:
1. Ship customization. I'd love to be able to customize the look of my ship, even just paint color. Hell, I'd settle for just being allowed to name my ship. It lets me name species of crab; why can't I name the ship that ferries me across the galaxy?
2. A targeting computer. If I can travel thousands of times faster than the speed of light, I can't help but feel like my ship should be able to target and lock on to an enemy ship.
3. A bank system. Let me have a bank in the space stations that I use to store stuff long term without it taking up my slots. Like, don't even let me access it unless I'm out of my ship on the space station, but let me stockpile resources without taking up my entire inventory.
4. Trading with players on your friend list (can be done in an e-mail sort of fashion; "Hey, I need some iridium if you have any you can spare" or "Can you send me blueprint X?" etc)
5. Some kind of building system. Even if it's a basic one, I'd like to be able to build little bases or monuments or whatever on a planet.

Funny you put base building as least likely since that's actually what they're working on now.
In the day zero patch notes:
Anyway yeah, it's pretty hilarious that a game designed to just chill out to is generating so much anger and hate.

Next up we’re adding the ability to build bases and own giant space freighters. Temporal AA and my new cloud rendering tech should be coming soon too. It will really change the game again, and enhance it visually.

If you are near a landing pad or one of those pods you can call your ship with the ship should automatically take control and land itself by them. That's the way it is on PS4 at least. Many times I've gone to manually land somewhere and it's taken control and forced me to land by one of those call pods which usually aren't in very good positions so it kind of bugs me.
My biggest issue with flight is the invisible walls that are everywhere that keep you from crashing I find them extremely annoying. I know there would undoubtedly be a lot of younger kids maybe having difficulty flying as well as a few people getting their ships stuck in awkward places, but I really wish there were at least an option to turn them off. The walls also occasionally jettison me out of the atmosphere which is really annoying.
Also does anyone know if there is a place to view all of the uploaded discoveries or if not if they are planning to make a site or something in the future?
