Just buy a ship repairs are pretty extensive on those down ships. I usually just hit the little black box next to the ship for the story/reward and then move on. Just hang out at a trade post or space station and eventually a ship you like will pop up.

Also I was going to start naming my systems DGAF but that's censored so if you ever run across a DGAS that was me  . Hitting so many on my way to the center of the universe that I'm not really bothering with specifics at least not for now.

Okay so this pisses me off and confuses me at the same time. So in an attempt to figure out why my jumps my 1,600 light year jumps were only netting me around 400 light years closer to the center I did some calculations and fiddled around on the galaxy map for about an hour. Guess what I found out the highest efficiency rate I could accomplish is 25% when pointing directly towards the bright light in the center. So that confirms that the center of the galaxy is indeed the brightest star in the galaxy map. It also confirms that the linear distance shown when navigating is actually multiplied by four so when you are supposedly traveling 1,600 light years you are actually only traveling 400 light years  . Which confirms that these dicks padded the living hell out of this game and are trying to hide it for whatever reason  .

So yeah my calculations go from needing 87 warp cells to manually jump to the center of the universe all the way up to 348 warp cells. So if I go the black hole route I'll still probably need 87-100 warp cells plus a hundred hours or so worth of repairs  .

The real question is why do this? Did they need more time to finish whatever is at the center of the universe or what? There really should be no reason for this and it's just a cruel joke for anyone who figures it out.

You only get that "black hole sense" once you complete the Atlas Path.

In any case I have completed it now because traveling a large distance away from the bugged waypoint caused it to reset when I found Nada again. I wanted to spend more time drifting through the galaxy before finishing but I was so afraid it was going to mess up again that I just did a speed run of the other interfaces.

Though in the end the Atlas path was underwhelming honestly. I enjoy the random chit-chats with Nada and Polo more.

Anyway, nothing left to do but head towards the center and explore which is nice. I spent a lot of time yesterday beefing up my ship, I've got all the warp reactors installed.

Also is there any point to the pulse cannon other than the infinite shots? I preferred to just spend space pimping out the phase beam which eats pirates alive.

Seems like those are at the mercy of the RNG, either Polo will randomly decide to give you one during his milestone checks or you can just find one when raiding stuff like manufacturing facilities.

From what I understand they're not terribly useful anyway.

So if I buy a new ship, do I get all my items transferred across or do I lose them all? I suppose you lose all your upgrades and have to re-add them, like you do with the multi-tool?

You can transfer your items in the compare screen.

You'll also get money back for your ship depending its number of slots and upgrades.

What I tend to do however is disassemble all of my upgrades on my old ship before selling (do this with multitools too) so I'll have some materials to upgrade my new ship how I want it. I get less money back for my old ship but it saves time for me and I don't really need money for anything else at this point.

So I'm at 11 and a half hours right now. I just sped read through this thread.

I started with the pre-order bonus ship, FWIW. I jumped to my second system, which only had one planet and a space station. Luckily I was able to buy what I needed to make another warp cell, so I jumped to my third system. So this system I'm in now, I might stay in for a while. First planet I visited was OK, the next two had "kill on sight" sentinels though so I didn't stay long. The fourth planet I visited is a gold mine. There's tons of valuable resources every where, too much for me to carry. There's structures EVERYWHERE, as well as those pods that you can buy a new slot for your suite. I found so many new slots that I ran out of money. I need one more discovery to 100% this planet, so I might go for it. I'm definitely gonna stay to make some more money and maybe build a few upgrades or something.

I think I'm at the point where I need a new ship. I'm not sure what I wanna do though. I don't want a full on fighter ship, but I wanna be able to defend and fly fast. I want as much cargo space as possible, but I hate the way those big ships look. The fighter ships look so much cooler. Once I have more money saved up I might hang around the space station for a while to hunt for a good compromise ship.

When you're on a planet, is there any way to navigate back to places you've already discovered? I found a new slot upgrade, but was just short on money (I just bought several in a row, and they increase by 10k units each time) so I just flew to the nearest place I could sell some stuff. Then it took me a while to find the upgrade again, even though it was close by, since it no longer had the ? to fly to. I can see the discovered area in the menu, but I didn't see any "navigate to" options.

Yeah, I was going to say, I also disassemble my upgrades before buying a multi-tool upgrade, so figured it was best to do with buying new ships too.

Thanks for the tips. I have a fair bit of money now, so plan on buying a new ship soonish.

Any of you attempting the PC version? I just keep seeing non-stop bitching online how it's grossly unoptimized that even the high end hardware (system and GPU) can't keep a steady framerate.

I want it, but until that's resolve I'm not buying the game.

It's not that well optimized but I've been playing it on a fairly weak PC to begin with so it's hard for me to say. It's been playable for me with some framerate dips here and there, usually caused by the weather.

There's an experimental patch available on Steam that people are saying fixes most of the technical issues like the framerate and crashes but I have the game on GOG so I can't check that out until they release it as a finished patch.

In other news: I found the Atlas v3 pass. It also opens v2 doors. However as I was told it's pretty useless. Both on the station and on the planet the rooms you get access to seem pointless. It feels like a very unfinished mechanic. Maybe the passes will do more in a later version.

I too have it on PC/GoG. I noticed some dips in performance, but I don't know if it's my PC or not. At this point, my CPU is "older". For the most part though, gameplay has been pretty smooth, it'll just occasionally lag. I haven't had any freezing issues. Definitely nothing that has caused me to enjoy playing it any less. Honestly, I stopped noticing when the lagging happens because I'm enjoying the game too much.

My PC specs (not trying to show off, just FWIW):
Intel Core i7 920 (2.66Ghz, no OC)
18GB DDR3 RAM (tri-channel)
Samsung EVO 850 SSD (limited to 3 Gbit/s because of mobo)
nVidia GeForce GTX 960

I've noticed that Steam/GoG only list the minimum specs. I'd like to know the recommended specs. I can upgrade my CPU for fairly cheap since the 1366 socket is kinda old now. I can get a ~600Mhz increase before OC'ing. I haven't changed any of the graphics options from default but I see I can turn some things up, I'd like to know what difference (if any) a faster CPU would make for me.
