Anybody ever play Tribes: Aerial Assault for the PS2?

Post by ThrashOmen »

This is my all time favorite game. It's long dead and was not very poular. Mainly because it supported 56k users (which was a blessingin my time) and it was sometimes laggy.

The gameplay was excellent. You choose your own loadout and define your own positions. I was a base disruptor. Basically I broke into bases, defiled the generators and murdered everyone who tried to bring everything back. Vicious, fierce and fast gameplay. The community was probly around 1,000 players at its peak so everyone knew everyone.

My username was BlingShyne2. No i wasnt a lame ass wanna be thug. I'm white, I love metal and I play guitar. It was a joke name when I used to play tribes on PC but it stuck and I kind of liked it. I had my old account on Tribes banned and came back later as BlingShyne2. Never bothered me that it was a lame ass thug name. :)

Anyways we were a pretty tight community of gamers and forum crawlers for about 4 years and it would be awesome if any of my old buddies were on here :)

I have not played on line that much, actually now not at all now since the install in the HD which disables the broadband adapter. I have the PS2 Blue CD, should really explore this game. I do remember Tribes having a huge arena to explore.

I remember when the PS2 Network adaptor first came out, and it promised a new era of online gaming. I was big into Dreamcast Online, and had almost all of the online titles for that console. o after it died out, I drifted to PS2 for my online fix. Tribes 2 was the first online game I had for that system, and I did play a lot for about six months or so after the initial release. That game was BA, and a lot of fun. I don't remember my name on there, but I probably played some with you back then. Good times, too bad the PS2 never really caught on with online gaming though. Aside from Socom and Final Fantasy XI, there wasn't much online that was popular. So I ended up swinging over to the Xbox and Xbox Live's early days with Tetris, Halo 2, and Ghost Recon.

Tribes 2 was ahead of its time though. I thought it funny when Bungie announced new gameplay features for Halo Reach, and one of them was jetpacks. First thing I thought was "Already experienced that with Tribes 2, and it was very cool."

The PS2 Tribes is on sale for $2 at a place near me, but I can't decide if I want it because I already have Tribes: Vengeance and Tribes 2 for PC.

By the way, if you didn't know... Vivendi has allowed fans to keep Tribes 2 alive. It is a free download with fan run servers now:

If you haven't played it before, it doesn't get any better than free! 8)
