You guys are lame. I got no responses on my last post on this topic. Maybe you guys will like these better! :D BTW, fun fact: the DMG has an EL backlight. It's not bad if you don't mind the high pitch whine sound.

Do want.

Backlit/bivert DMG + this rechargeable mod you've done = perfect DMG gameboy.

Groovy. I dig that backlit orange translucent GBA.

Great way to start a post. Suggest reduce pictures to 725 wide to speedup a page load and for a much easier read. You can also use the {attachment}20160202_100340 (1).jpg{/attachment} command which will automatically resize the pictures to a manageable view.

The mods look great, but maybe post the technical side showing how each Gameboy is modded with the chargeable batteries and the GBA brighter screen. Are the chargeable batteries common and easily replaceable when they eventually wear out? Have you found why the sound whines and is it all the portables or just one?

I didn't see your other thread, I definitely would have posted a thumbs up if I did!

So what kind of batteries are you using?

I don't get the need for a rechargeable mod (my preference has always been rechargeable AAs since they are cheap and easy to switch to a full pair with no delay when power runs out) but love the backlit GBA with orange case. Looks gorgeous.

That's what I thought, too! The DMG is the right size, the backlit/bivert LCD is sharp, and the rechargeable battery saves batteries! I just miss the weight of the AAs a lil bit. I'll build one for you if you want. Just PM me. :D

I looked at all the colors on eBay and this was my favorite.

Thanks for the posting tips! I re-sized the photos and 725 width looks much better. I just recently went through a big move and didn't have the time and resources to go through the technical side of things with photos, but I'd really like to go back and point out some details. I plan on following-up on that soon!

I used DSi batteries in the GBA and GB Pocket. I used a GBA SP battery in the DMG. I'd like to swap out the GBA SP battery (800mah) with something bigger, though. All batteries eventually wear out, but I'm comfortable enough with modding Game Boys that it wouldn't be a huge deal if a battery eventually failed on me. Also, I haven't had any Nintendo brand batteries fail on me yet!

The whine sound comes from the regulator board that is necessary for all electroluminescent panels. There is unfortunately no way to avoid the noise. But I can say that it isn't very noticeable after a few minutes with the sound on medium. The other Game Boys don't have EL backlights and therefore don't have the sound issue.

Thanks! See my previous reply for battery details.

I strongly prefer rechargeable mods if I can charge with a micro USB cable. I have micro USB cables and USB ports everywhere in my house and my car for my phone, tablet, and other devices already. If my Li-Ion battery dies, I can plug in a cable and keep gaming. I don't know if every rechargeable mod works that way, though. However, I will say that I prefer the feel of the heavier alkaline batteries over the lighter Li-Ion batteries. Thanks for the compliment!

Thanks for the info. I'm going to be doing a DMG build for my fiancée, and I was wondering if this is as simple as a direct solder from the battery terminals to the board contacts or if there's a resistor or something? Apologize as I'm a novice when it comes to electrical stuff.

I never saw the real need for rechargeable 'cause for me it's actually easier to pack a couple of AA batteries for the road rather than finding some place to charge it...

However, LOVE the backlit! Mine is so dull that it hurts my eyes! I actually have to have the sun right at my back to see it! Back in the day I didn't even know the map of Breath of Fire 2 was green until I got a DS! :)
