My question on this subject is why not just go for a GBA SP Model 101? Besides the different form factor I can't think of a single reason to spend the time looking at mods and third party solutions when Nintendo already made the 1st party solution for us.

I have one of those, can't play for more than 30 mins without getting massive handcramps. I'd love a lit OG GBA, I still play mine the most.

Same here. The form factor of the SP is precisely the problem. It is so small that I find it very uncomfortable to use. I also don't like the L & R buttons, while I'm at it.

What he said. While I could play for a long stretch on a game that barely/lightly uses the L/R buttons, if it's a game that usually uses them as a primary function like your F-Zero racers (or other racers), first person shooters, and some other titles the tendons for the pointer fingers on the back of my hand hurt like hell after not much time and switching to another only adds to the misery.

That's the ONLY reason I took a 101 screen I had and chop shopped it into my white GBA and I haven't had a problem since playing stuff. The best solution would have been a wider body like the DS had not a little cube only good for kid hands.

RETRO that GBC is a beauty. Makes me wish I had $35 right now in paypal but I have like half that if that much in there now.

I might be interested in getting a NGPC frontlit in the near-ish future. Hit me up for details?
