he's got a lot more experience with soldering than I do... He's done quite a few mod chips as well as other electronics (we both go to DeVry for different electronic majors)

UPDATE:

Wii is modded now. Put in a D2CKey and also the SD mod so I can backup games via SD card.

Works great after some troubleshooting.
