Which version slim do you have?

Right now I'm trying to get a hold of a 70000 series slim so I can perform an IDE and SATA mod.
This will allow to use an external HDD with eSATA.

Mine is a SCPH-90001 with a Modbo/Matrix modchip. Can that one use a SATA mod?

Yeah here's a video show casing the IDE/SATA mod you can perform on a Slim PS2 (don't know if it's compatible with your model).

Though if it where me I would just get a phat PS2 since that wouldn't make your PS2 look like some hacked up zombie.

If you play your cards right you can get most of the supplies for pretty cheap. For instance a phat PS2 can go for something like $30-$40 and if you happen to find a Network Adapter (has HDD support built in) at gamestop you can get it for only $6.

Do I need to care if the DVD drive works or not? Like if I can transfer ISOs via LAN to the PS2's HDD or not.

That is correct. You don't even need to use your DVD drive afterwards (unless it's a PS1 game). If fact OPL only supports transferring over LAN, it has no built in ripper. However you could use HDLA for just that soul purpose if you really needed to rip from the PS2's DVD drive.

You can. You have to do a button combination which is,

Code: Select all

L1+L2+R1+R2+select+start

It will then boot back to the PS2's main menu. Though in my experience doing that will make some games freeze, so it's not perfect.

You can also set up a USB Memory Stick or MC so when you use IGR it will load OPL and not go back to the PS2 menu.

I have it go back to uLaunch so I can launch anything from there.
It´s also very nice to get the ps2 remote control, recommended.

You could rename opl.elf to boot.elf and replace the boot.elf it loads when exiting, but this m ight screw up other things/paths. Please try it with a spare memorycard first or just know how to replace it back.

The image has to be 140x200 and named the same as the games boot up code, which is by default the games serial code, then put a "_COV" at the end. If you want to make custom background art per game then you have to have the image be 640x480 and named the same as the cover art only with a "_BG" at the end and place it in the same folder (which has to be the ART folder on the OPL partition of your internal HDD).
Here is an example,

SLUS_219.27_COV.png

You can also download pre-made cover art here,

(The art can be in either jpg or png)
