I was expecting a lot more when I followed that link. Like why just a plain design? No cool pokemon decals or color patterns.

It's supposed to be identical to the arcade cabinet's controllers.

I don't understand why the controller for a fully 3D fighting game wouldn't have a stick instead of a d-pad myself.

Like, it literally has full 3d movement from what I can make out. Why a d-pad?

I don't even understand the point of that pad. The Pro Controller is already perfect for fighting games.

I guess it's because it's wired and some pretentious, hardcore tournament players believe wired controllers are vastly superior, due to, like, 0.00000000000001 milliseconds less button delay?

Not so much that but the logistics of having so many wireless controllers in a small area. There can be interference problems. Then there is the issue of people forgetting to disconnect their controllers between matches. It is a real nightmare for tournament organizers.

It's not pretentious at all. I'm no tournament fighter, but if I were, I'd want every advantage I could get, and the chance of failure with wireless vs. wired in a tournament environment isn't one that I'm willing to take.

I see differing information on lag time, but my guess is that, if you're in a noisy environment, you're going to potentially see lag that you wouldn't see with a wired connection.

EDIT: Ninja'd!

I preordered one of those controllers just because it looks cool and I figured it'd be nice to have one around just in case anyone playing with me insisted on one. That and I'll never know if I like that control scheme or not until I try it.

I have the game preordered and am planning on practing it quite a bit. I've only gotten 'serious' with a couple fighters before and this one looks quirky but polished. May get the special controller. By the way, as far as dpad. I haven't watched many videos, but maybe the movement is still just 8 way? Yes they are fighting in 3d, but is their 3d movement 'gated' to 8 directions like in Mario 3D world? If so the dpad is better because it's faster to change directions with.

I've got Pokken Tournament and the controller pre-ordered. I'm really looking forward to this one. I haven't played a Tekken game in ages but this game seems like it'll be fun.

I, as a rule, never get "serious" about any game, but this is probably the one fighting game I can see myself playing enough to get good.
