That was really fun to watch, I enjoyed the hell out of Mario Maker, can't wait to play that for myself

So it looks like they took the old Mother prototype and slapped it in an emulator, and maybe fixed some of the bugs that got fixed in the Zero dump. The title screen is still just Earthbound (and no Zero like was added by fans).

Was kind of fun I guess. Didn't even know it was happening today until I saw it advertised on Youtube. I joined in during Blast Ball and was immediately disappointed that it wasn't a new Metroid.
I knew back when this was first announced that it was all leading up to Mario Maker though.
Not that it's a bad thing, I liked watching this as much as the Arino-built levels on the Game Center CX special. Mario Maker is going to be an instant classic.

I really enjoyed the event overall. Sure, I knew that Smash Bros. would lead into Mario Maker to drum up the excitement for the upcoming game, but I didn't feel like it was a letdown.
I thought the system they made up for the tournament was really arbitrary and strange, but just rolled with it. We didn't know why some people in losing groups moved on and the like, but again, I wasn't treating this like a serious tournament. Instead it was a novelty commercial that was just exciting to see.
I loved how they set up the retro challenges in the loser's bracket and thought it was refreshing to see how they would make The Legend of Zelda and Super Metroid competitive. I always liked races more than I did score battles, so it really was cool to see.
I think the highlight of the night had to be the announcement of Mother arriving on the Wii U. Definitely got the biggest response. Even though the game is mediocre overall, what with being an NES RPG, it is still worth playing and worth supporting with hopes for Mother 3 coming to the states.

I'm hoping to see a Mother 3 remake for the 3DS announced at their digital event, but thats unlikely.

At this point I think the only unlikely thing is Nintendo announcing they are retiring Mario. Everything else is on the table.

They have definitely been backed into a corner. That is when Nintendo does some pretty interesting things. We will see on Tuesday though!
