Hello!

Just joined the forum -

Just got a retron 5 and am rekindling my love of retro gaming! Found these forums and have read them for a bit, but finally joined.

I dont have much of a collection, but I am hoping to pick up games here and there - Just wanted to introduce myself and say HI

(Im going to focus mostly on NES since that was my main system!)

Greetings and welcome to the forum! It is a pleasure to have you aboard! Congratulations on your purchase of the Retron 5 and I hope that it brings you a lot of entertainment with the games of the past. You said you are looking mostly for NES games right? Any particular titles that you are searching for that really called out to you as a kid?

I was never raised on the NES. Instead, most of my experience was with the Atari 2600 and then a jump onto the Sega Genesis. What games on the NES I had exposure to were weird. Super Pitfall, California Games and the original Double Dragon were the only things I could see, but not play as I was, "Too young."

Now, I have a pretty solid selection of titles that I love, but it just doesn't have the appeal to me like the Genesis, mostly because of nostalgia's sake.

Anywho! Welcome once again and enjoy your stay!

Thanks for the kind welcoming :)

I was totally a kid of the "Basics" - Mario Bros 2 and 3, Mike Tysons PUNCH OUT, Pro Wrestling (Piranha bite!), Ducktales, Rygar

I have been trying to find bargains on eBay... Hard to but Im pretty patient - I have a ton of stuff to trade (non game but retro game merchandise) and I will post all that when I am allowed. I am also trying to find games that I have never played but hear are fun like Crysalis.

I went from NES to Sega Genesis - Never got an SNES or N64, I was always the one who chose the consoles that went belly up like Turbo Graphix 16 (the the CD attachment) and the Atari Lynx :)

Oh you are in for a treat my friend. We have a lot of people who absolutely adore the Turbo Graphix 16 and said Cd Atachment! My recommendation is to check out garage sales, Craigslist and flea markets for your NES stuff. You tend to get amazing deals and find a lot of awesome gems for relatively cheap! Also check out people here to if you are looking to buy.

Dont mind him new guy, dsheinem is our resident village idiot (every forum has at least one). See he can't even post pics right.

He likes to refer to himself as professor Dave too, so just kind of go along with it, might hurt his feelings if we dont.

Here is proof:

Yup. If you don't address him as Professor, you'll get a hate-filled PM. He babysat the site-owner's neighbors kid for a bat mitzvah years ago and apparently gets a free pass for life :/

Good call going with the Retron5, access to 10 different systems in all, and it allows the old games to run right and beautifully on a modern tv, yet still allows the use of original carts and controllers.

You're doing the right thing being patient. The NES/SNES market is hell right now with a lot of high quality key first and third party titles and you can take a total hit to the wallet on them if you're not careful. Go kind of slow, get a few at a time so you don't get burned out, and play them until you're ready for the next. Find a few more on the list, and keep going, whatever happens to pop up cheaper/easier at the time. Flea markets are touch and go these days being ebay copycats or the good finds they were for years depending on your area so maybe try that too. It's also spring, community garage sale time, might get lucky on that end of it too.

Since that thing runs so much, if you have an interest in it, most GB, GBC and GBA games are fairly dirt cheap still, especially as a game alone since it seems collectors/scalpers just like messing up the home based stuff mostly.

Thanks everyone! I actually got started because I got a pile or Famicom games given to me, and it just started my sentimental sensors going (I didnt have a famicom ever, they just triggered my researching, etc...)

Im kind of shocked at the NES prices - I thought a copy of Mario 3 or Tyson's punch out would be 5$ - Since I imagine Hundreds of thousands were produced - But I plan to play the long patient game, and the trade game for a while - Fortunately some of the games I liked like RYGAR are still pretty cheap it seems!

Welcome to the forums. :) Hope you enjoy your stay.

I have a big soft spot for the NES myself, since the systems I grew up on were the NES, SEGA Saturn, and N64. When I got into collecting, I looked around a lot for an NES. Took me about 2 years to actually get one, because of how hard it is to find one that isn't like, $30-$40. lol

If you have any questions about gaming in general, feel free to ask. We're a helpful bunch around here. :D
