possible free titles on Wii VC - Paper Mario, Mario 64

Post by alexis524 »

G' Morning fellow racketeers,

i was browsing the Wii VC on my Wii U earlier this morning in an effort to buy Paper Mario, and to my surprise, it cost me zero dollars/Wii points what-so-ever. I then decided to poke around to see what else was up for grabs free, and low and behold, so was Mario 64, Super Mario RPG, Castlevania, and a few others. I'm not sure why, since i didn't find any information online, but, if anyone is wanting to score these classics legitimately, give it a try. Let me know if you had the same luck I had.

P.S. IIRC, in the browser in Wii VC, any titles that were free had a blue background along with the words "downloadable"

i did, and thought that they could possibly have been bought by the previous owner, but, wouldn't they somehow be tied to the prior owner's account/ID?

Only if they transferred them over to a new system. Nintendo didn't have an account system for the Wii, everything was tied to the specific console.

Heh, you lucked out by buying a used Wii where someone had been active in the shop. :) The Wii Shop account is tied directly to the individual system. The only way to move your purchases is to use System Transfer to get them to your new Wii, just like with the 3DS.

Yay for you!
