Well, I finally unlocked the Gold Kart. :D I have about half of the staff ghosts beat. I still have yet to play online.

I'm still whittling away. I haven't unlocked any of the gold stuff yet. Hopefully, I'll get something after I finish the Mirror Cups. Only up to 2400 coins, though.

I just hit 2600 coins. What's the amount of coins for the last prize? I know there's a huge gap after a while before you hit 10,000 coins and get a gold part. But I mean, how many coins for the last unlock before 10K?

Last night I beat the last staff ghost!

I'm kinda disappointed with the gold tires. I guess I thought they were gonna have god-like stats. I've been using the slick tires for a while now. The gold tires have a little more acceleration and a little less top speed. So I'm not even gonna use them!

Now I just have to get the gold kite... At 10,000 coins, will I be disappointed there too?

Ok...Mario Kart 8 rant here. Let's light some fires

The Wii Remote Motion controls in Mario Kart 8 are perfect. 100% perfect. If you do not use the motion controls you are playing the game wrong and are handicapping yourself. "But Bogus," you say, "Motion controls are a gimmick!"

Not so my deluded gameplay masochists!

Let's take a look at the wii wheel shall we?

Image

This, is the wii wheel. Why I am showing you this image is for you to take a moment and look with your eyes. Measure the distance from the top of the wheel and draw an arc from its center all the way to the right or left side at the middle point. That is the amount of control you have when taking a turn and controlling your drift.

Now, this is a pro controller.

Image

Draw a line from the center of the thumbstick, to the right or left extremes of the thumbstick. Seems pretty small doesn't it? That is how much control you DON'T have with the pro controller.

For those that have played me on-line during the meet-ups, you can attest... I can't hold my own. You can also notice that I am the only one playing with the wheel. It isn't because I am better than other people, it is because I have an extreme advantage... the wheel.

I can take a turn with pinpoint accuracy, drifting so tightly around the turn that I am almost on the edge of the grass, yet able to handle it perfectly. Why? The wheel.

Wake up everyone and realize that you have convinced yourself that motion controls suck for Mario Kart and in turn have doomed yourself to a lower position.

Want to look cool and impress your friends? Act like you are driving your hated in-laws with your imaginary car and success will be yours!

Well, we'll have to compete at some point and see if you're just blowing smoke.

Personally, I don't care. I just flat out don't wanna use motion controls. It's not because I hate them, I actually think it's kinda neat. It's not because I'll feel stupid using it, I usually game alone anyways. And besides, I do plenty of things that should make me feel more stupid. And it's not because I don't own the Wii Wheel, I do. It's because I'm just not comfortable having to put that much physical energy into playing a video game. I like to hold the controller in my lap. Not out in front of me, and not having to constantly move my arms around.

That being said, I feel like I can control in MK8 just fine using the Pro controller. So, like I said, we'll have to compete at some point.

What are you saying? They smoothed out the Wii remote motion controls for 8 over Wii? Because they were garbage in Mario Kart Wii. And the motion controls on the gamepad for Mario Kart 8 aren't tremendously better.

Think they might have something akin to auto-aim if using motion controls, to make it work?

Main reason I'm not interested in using a Wiimote/wheel is that I don't want to pay attention to how I'm holding the controller. Pure waggle sucks too, but needing to keep the Wiimote pointed at the TV for Metroid Prime (Trilogy version) was annoying, for instance.

It doesn't matter, and I hate to use such a cliche, as long as you're having fun. When I was playing Mario Kart Wii I would always use the Classic Controller. One of my friends would come over often and we'd play online together a lot, and he had a blast using the wheel. I could never use the wheel. But we had the same amount of fun playing.

It was an actual question.

The Wii U does have the added processing ability to smooth out Wii remote data, while the Wii Didn't. So, I'm curious.
