The only thing holding me back from completely agreeing with this is the battle system. The battles are by far the best and most standout parts of the game.

I dont really understand the catch of it. What's the point of saving your attacks for later? Are there bosses that can only be killed with a certain number of burst damage?

I played some of the demo, I just don't how it makes the game seem so different.

In random battles you can go into debt to nuke them in one turn. In boss battles it gives you the flexibility to go into debt when needed (emergency healing or something else) and since guarding gives you extra turns later if the boss is readying some big attack you can guard it and then get multiple turns later. Also, there are some skills that can spread BP around, allowing you to plan out some more intricate turns.

Add me into the "this starts disappointingly but gets waaaaaay better later on" crowd.

2 things that changed my mind:

1) The characters DO develop. I'm not half way through the game yet, but finally the writing has picked up its pace. The characters feel like they really are adventuring together, that there is tension between them, and that tension is really well explained by the plot. It's not the best JRPG story mind you, but it's much better than what it started as.

Also huge tip: TURN OFF THE VOICE ACTING

seriously, both English and Japanese casts are HORRIBLE (with the exception of the English voice for Ringabel) and ruin the mood. Seriously some times it sounds like a game from the late 90s/early 00s.

2) The battle system...oh..my...god...it is....BEEEAAAAUTIFUL.

You don't realize how good it really is till you unlock and level the more specialized jobs.

I currently have my white mage (powerfull healing) with summoner as a secondary class (for powerful summons...and because it's my only earth elemental attack since I prefer to use 2 rangers for damage instead of a black mage) and I get to match and pick the secondary skills of all the jobs she leveled. So she has:

1) A spell on her sword from the spell fencer class which makes her attacks absorb MP from the enemy (thus making sure she doesn't run out of MP)

2) She has a shield with a high evade skill, so she can use the red mage skill I got equiped on her to win extra turns every time she evades an attack and

3) The mislead skill from the freelancer that greatly lowers the chance that enemies will target her, making it more likely she will survive.

I have never played a JRPG where I enjoyed customizing my character's abilities so far. And to think I've only unlocked half the jobs so far. I'm looking forward to seeing what offensive combos I can build :D

My favorite combo was to use two Dark Knights with Spell Fencer as secondary. I'd use the HP Drain sword to offset the damage Dark Knights do to themselves and could start powering out the 5 hits in one skill repeatedly.

Plus, the Dark Knights look amazing.

Haven't got to that point in the game yet :/. I'm in the...4th chapter I think...when you reach the fire stage :P. Basically it's when the characters start to get interesting.

I especially like
How Agnes has turned kind of fanatical in her pursuit of her goals. She is bashing Edea like there's no tomorrow and doesn't care anything about what's happening in the world. It's refreshing to see a "nice and innocent JRPG heroine" with a bitch side to her :P. Looking forward to the "I'm sorry for the way I acted scene". Don't spoil it to me though :P

I've not long owned the game and aren't too far in, but this x 10000000.

Haha I swear some of the voice actors were in Shennmue.

If you have an issue with the beginning of the game you will have a HUGE problem with the last part. The last 1/3 of this game is just awful and unnecessary. Going by other comments it seems like most people don't even get to that part of the game though. Overall I really enjoyed the game though. The battle systems and jobs are great.

My 3DS has been in sleep mode for 4 days in a row (with a 5 hours break to charge) to complete that freaking village xD

Why would you break to charge? Just plug the charger into the sleeping 3DS.

to charge faster so I can take it with me to the living room to check on it more often, but I guess if it's in sleep mode it wasn't going to make much difference in the charge time would it?
