Downloading Samus Returns.

This is a sexy piece of hardware. Think it came with a 32GB card and Samus Returns is a little over 5. Any recommendations for another card? Or does it only support up to 32GB?

The 3D already hurts my eyes when I was setting it up. Not sure if I'll use it much.

The shop seems horribly designed. I'm not surprised.

Should I get some screen protectors? Also Ex was talking about some grip things in the Metroid thread, I'm assuming this one will work with the Samus model?

How is the DS/3DS market? Are games cheap or still expensive? I know Nintendo stuff never drops. The GBA was treated like absolute garbage, I'd rarely walk into some store seeing CIB games, often saw cartridges and stickers that looked like they fell in lava or a dog chewed them up, and now there's bootlegs everywhere. I'm hoping in a post PS2 era that DS/3DS stuff has been treated well and it's easy to find things CIB still. The hard cases probably helped?

What's the DS port of Chrono Trigger like?

DS port of CT is fantastic. There's some optional content involving an arena that can get you some consumables early if I recall correctly, and there's also an extra ending in the bonus dungeon that spends some time tying the game more closely with Chrono Cross (showing how CT leads to some things in CC). But you can ignore all that if you want and just get the same experience you'd get on the SNES. If you don't already have CT then get the DS port; if you do have it then you probably only want to get it if you want to do the bonus dungeon and see the extra ending.

32GB is more than enough for 3DS. In 5 years not even come close to filling up my 8GB card.

I've got a 32gb card in my 3DS XL which is FULL of games, and still nowhere near out of space. You'll be fine with that.

Yeah it's not great.

I always have, and have never regretted it. For New 3DS XL I recommend:

Yes the Cyber model is the one you want. You won't regret it.

I don't know about the DS prices. But there are a LOT of fantastic DS games. Have fun sliding down the rabbit hole.

Cool, I'll get those accessories soon. I can already tell a long session with it would probably get me cramped, so that grip is probably awesome. Anyways I didn't go for Samus Returns tonight, just played some Metal Slug haha. With Metroidvania's I want a good chunk of binge time, maybe tomorrow.

Mighty Gunvolt and Azure Gunvolt Striker are on Steam. Maybe there's a chance 2 will hit there eventually. I think on the DS I'll just consider ZX Advent and Contra 4 for now.

I dug up my DS collection out of a box and laughed at some results, haven't even touched these:
- Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney
- Final Fantasy III (played the NES version anyways)
- Dragon Quest V
- Mario & Luigi Partners in Time... maybe I played some of this, don't know.
- Sonic Rush, WTF is this?

I didn't like:
- Metroid Prime Hunters
- Zelda Phantom Hourglass
- Mario Kart DS
- New Super Mario Bros

Super Mario 64 DS is fine but not ideal. Tetris DS was a blast with friends.

Other than that, the most important thing is the Castlevania trilogy. Definitely need to replay these (but wow the generic anime box art covers for Dawn and Portrait are even worse than I remembered lmao). I don't think Mega Man ZX left an impression on me at all, I still have that one... but I'll just have to check out Advent sometime. I don't think ZX was bad, just didn't leave a mark.

EDIT:

Radiant Historia always looked appealing to me. There was one other JRPG that was very sci-fi and with a lot of space I think, but I'm drawing a blank... does that ring a bell for anyone? I think it was a DS or 3DS game.

So here is the cool thing. 3DS is region locked but DS was not. So 3DS is fully BC with any region of DS software. RH is getting a remaster for 3DS early next year. Infinite Space is the one you are thinking of tho I think that one is pricey. Maybe the PAL version is cheaper. Someone gave me the copy I have.

That's true about Azure Striker Gunvolt, but the 3DS was the native development platform. ZX Advent is excellent, I think you'd enjoy it. I'm not the biggest fan of Contra 4, but it's one of Wayforward's better games.

The original Ace Attorney is a legit classic, I loved it. (Strangely I did not enjoy Ace Attorney 2 or 3 nearly as much.) Dragon Quest V on DS is good, I didn't care for its plot, but the gameplay was solid. I really like the engine the DQ DS games use. DQ IV on DS was a blast.

Knowing your tastes, on DS I think you'd enjoy these:

Those are all solid games, particularly Ninja Gaiden. (Monster Tale is the only questionable inclusion. It needed to be two or three times longer. That's not something I say about many games.)

I also recommend Henry Hatsworth to Xeogred. It is a great mash up of Ninja Gaiden and Tetris Attack.

I also gotta say Monster Tale ain't that great. It's a fantastic example of how to do recursive game design badly. It's not a bad game, but holy crap do they make the "exploring" back to old areas you NEED to go to to progress feel like tedious work.

I second Henry Hatsworth! It's a cheap game, and it's also a great one!

The Ace Attorney games on DS are great. You can get the trilogy on the eShop for far less than you can get the physical releases for, I'm sure. 2 is the only one I really don't like out of the DS entries. 1, 3, and 4(Apollo Justice) are all fantastic.

Dragon Quest 4 and 5 are also absolutely fantastic on DS. I don't care for 6 too much, tbh. Too much gating through random town NPC's you MUST talk to which can get very very annoying :/

I totally forgot about that Aliens game. Isn't it a Metroidvania?

Consider me very intrigued.

I hate to say but I think these DS Dragon Quest games look ultra ugly. I'm extremely picky about old polygonal stuff unless it's on the PSX/N64... lol. Yeah I don't know why I own that version of 5.

Been saying it for years here at this rate, but I still want to play some of the originals first anyways. Then from there I'm more interested in 8 and 11 since they look so amazing with Toriyama's style.
