Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels - Holy Cow, It's Hard!

Post by racketboy »

Aka the Japanese version of Super Mario Bros 2.

My wife and I (mostly my wife) have been playing The Lost Levels on Super Mario All-Stars.
My wife is a big 2D Mario fan and I knew this game wasn't initially brought to the US because of the difficulty level, but this this is insane.

Anybody else played this?

I'll probably be doing a review of it soon.
I'm watching my wife attempt to beat the thing

it's been years since i've played it. i remember when it first came out, nintendo power did a feature/contest for the lost levels (included in super mario all-stars, of course) - if you beat each world without using warp pipes, you would get to a world 9! if you took a picture of mario standing in front of bowser and sent it in to the magazine, they would send you an embroidered patch. damn, i tried so hard and finally did it, but i can't remember what happened. it was either just after the deadline, or my lazy parents didn't develop the film fast enough

The only Mario I've yet to beat as the difficulty was high enough for me to get annoyed and not bother anymore.

Never was a huge mario fan so my interest is lost very quickly. It doesn't give me that 'I'm gonna beat this game if it's the last thing I do'. I just don't care enough about Mario games.

I am proud to say that I beat this game, it took me a few solid weeks of playing this past summer, but that's because I've never gottenpast world 2 in my other numerous attempts.

My wife and I finished it all last night (with save state cheating)
Here's my write-up:

As I mentioned in the article, we hope to play though it again soon without cheats :)
