Sega CDX Repair Suggestions

Post by 8bit »

I've just purchased a Sega CDX which has known issues reading discs. The seller is convinced that its simply a case of bad POTS setting as the laser was replaced with a new unit but this is definitely something I am taking with a grain of salt.

Is there anyone here with experience repairing CDX's? Rather than me digging in and following youtube videos I'd rather start by seeing if anyone here can offer some guidance. If anyone can point me in the right direction with online guides or someone who offers reasonable repair services with decent turn around times I'd be very grateful!

Thanks!

Have you tried turning it off and back on again?

Good luck! The components in there are packed like sardines.

If there isn't some solid advice forthcoming, what I can say from my side is to look up the lukemorse1 YT channel. I seem to recall he had a few vids wrt CDX repairs.

I do hope you manage to get it fully functional. As Trump might say "It's a beautiful thing".
Small footprint. Tight and compact.

It's compatible with the Model 1 Power Base Converter. Yes, it fits.
It's compatible with the 32X. Yes, you can even swap out the Sega CD games with the 32X attached. There is enough space to open the lid.

This may not be relevant, but make sure your using the right power adapter. I used to use my CDX with a model 2 genesis adapter and games would kind of glich out every now and then. Once i got the actual CDX adapter I didn't have any more issues. The CDX adapters are real expensive and hard to come by though.
