Need mouse, keyboard ASAP Also camera and mic.

Post by Erik_Twice »

My mouse a Razer DeathAdder is dying. The left click button works only half of the time, making dragging a chore and the wheel has been non-functional for years. I need a new one and a keyboard to match.

I'm mostly looking for a great quality/price ratio. I write a lot on my keyboard and I'm somewhat serious about controls so feel free to make suggestions preferably under 60€ or less, though I might accept a bit more if you guys think it's really worth it.

My keyboard lost a leg and my mice's button stopped working just as I typed this. So please, be quick!

PD: I'm also looking for a cheap camera and a microphone so I can videochat with my friends and perhaps stream a bit. Nothing serious, I want something cheap and versatile.

Get a Kensington or Logitech trackball.

Ok I was joking. But they are comfortable.

Got a Logitech G9X that I've been rocking for a while now but damn the prices on those are ridiculous. I paid $40.49 for my Call of Duty MW3 edition when they were being clearanced back in 2013 and now used ones are going for $70+ with some jackholes trying to charge $200+ for new ones  .

As for keyboards I've been using a Saitek Eclipse for 5+ years now and it's held up really well I've smeared the coating off a few of the keys but it still works perfectly fine. Not many new ones left around at decent prices though :(. Wish I had stocked up on these like I did with the Creative Fatality headsets back when they were $20.

Your keyboard is probably salvageable if the only issue is the leg... You can remove the other leg and prop the back with something.

Or replace one or both legs with clips.

If you do a lot of typing, and you're serious about it, I recommend spending the money and investing in a good keyboard. This thread documents my hesitation to spend the money on a mechanical keyboard, but once I finally did, there's just no going back. Typing on it is effortless compared to the crap I was use to. I noticed that I can type much faster and with less errors on my mechanical keyboard versus the shitty membrane pack-in keyboard I have to use at work. It's a night and day difference.

Corsair K70: https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Gaming-M ... r=8-2&th=1

The K70 is what I have, and I love it. I think the K70 I linked above is a newer version of the one I have. Well worth the money. Not only is it much more pleasant to type on, but the build quality feels like it will last forever.

There's also the K65: https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeanc ... 726&sr=8-4

It's a budget version of the K70. No numeric keypad (which disqualifies it for me) and no back lighting.

The K70 was worth every penny to me. I was worried that it wouldn't be as good as I was hoping, but it is. You can further justify the price by knowing that it'll last a long time. Instead of making this same thread 2, 3 or 5 years from now, you'll just be smiling at your K70.

The back lit keys were something that I thought I would never care about, but I ended up really liking them. I didn't realize how often I would use them at night or early in the morning when the room is dimly lit. The red is a perfect color, too. It's bright and easy to see, but subtle at the same time. It's a darker red, so it's not as piercing as some LEDs can be. The three brightness levels help as well.

I'd definitely suggest going with a mechanical keyboard. Personally, I'm using a K70 as well, but there are some cheaper ones around. I've bought a few of the Rosewill 9000v2 for work (one of which I use) which is very solid if you don't want/need gamer type features.

I've been happy with Steelseries mice I've had. Most of what they make are essentially reminiscent of the old school optical Microsoft mice, but with modern components. I have a Sensei one of some kind (I think the RAW one). They also make nice basic mousepads - not necessary per se, but likely something that'd be a cheap improvement.

Hard to go wrong with Logitech as well.

Logitech C920 is a solid webcam and not too pricey now that there are newer variants of it. They're what we have at work for if/when people need one. If you need a better mic than is built into that, maybe a Blue Snowball iCE USB mic or similar (probably not for streaming though, it'd likely pick up too much keyboard noise).

I also type on a mechanical keyboard. I use an old school dell at101w. This is a direct copy of the famous IBM model M except with a windows key, a dell logo, and a PS/2 connection. I use a nine dollar USB converter to connect it to my computer.

Ivo joked about a Kensington trackball. Coincidentally I just bought one an hour ago. I also like the Microsoft optical USB trackball a lot (the one with the ball under the thumb).

But you didn't say trackball, did you? You said mouse. You really can't go wrong with any brand name modern USB laser mouse. Just avoid generics. If you need a recommendation, I would say that logitech makes a pretty good mouse.

Does it have a scroll ring?

Nope, No scroll ring. Think old school: beige, four buttons, billiard ball.
