Consolized MVS stereo sound problem

Post by SceptreJLRB »

Hi,

I'm just trying to get into the exhilarating Neo-Geo universe by getting rid of my emulators and looking for an affordable consolized MVS. I have been offered an MV-1F consolized board with stereo sound via the RGB output. Note that, by default, this board outputs stereo sound through its headphone and speakers 4-pin connectors. The seller indicates that it certainly has stereo sound, but, however, the left channel sounds louder than the right one. He also pinpoints that this issue is totally normal in ALL consolized MVSs.

So my doubt is: Is this problem really recurrent when consolizing an MVS? Do ALL consolized MVSs suffer from this disbalanced stereo sound? And, most importantly: Is there any way to solve it, or is it certainly unsolvable?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers.

Stereo sound is attainable on the NeoGeo MVS boards quite simply. The main issue however is choosing an MVS board that has lower voltage requirements. Some have far higher voltage requirements and also some need a variety of voltages too.

I used a NeoGeo MVS console board in my old Project Unity, which I dismantled several months ago. I relocated the 240 or so wires to lay the console cartridge port to take cartridges horizontally not vertically. I mounted the cart port onto pieces of MDF for strength (however of course also adds to weight).

I also have an unmodded NeoGeo board which I think works but not sure. The contacts are tinned. I didn't test that board, although the one I mentioned above worked great with MVS multi-cartridge and original MVS cartridges.

If you are interested in buying both of these from me, and making an offer; I am happy to sell them to you. If you are going to make your own system and own casing then this would be potentially a good option.

The voltage lines and also RGB lines are easy to work with, you will just need to wire up to some regulators (I think if I recall it uses 12v, 5v and -5v as the voltage lines.

Shoot me a PM if interested. Would also be cheaper than using a console

Thank you so much for your kind and detailed answer, bacteria! And sorry for my delay answering, I didn't even noticed your message...

Finally, I got another MV-1F, with its stereo sound working perfectly. The former one I was offered had some wiring problems in the consolization, so I finally let it go.

Regards,
