Game Gear Master System Game issues

For some reason, my game gear has issues playing master system games, through the master converter or a game gear that is a master port (like castle of illusion). It displays with a messed up color pallet and distortions. It's as if it's not switching into master system mode. I will include pictures for examples.


Any ideas guys?
