Ok, so I tried to clean the lens, nothing.
I tried a different CD, nothing (i dont have any CD-Rs of Sega games)
I tried a music CD, nothing.
I hooked up my Gen1 instead, nothing.
I took it apart and sprayed it with air, all the parts on the CD reader
seemed to move ok and everything appears to be tight and hooked up.
Still says no disc, I hear nothing spinning (and nothing IS spinning when I open the door). It also does not let me move the cursor when I open the lid.
Total bummer.
Please help.
Anything?

You may need to replace the drive belt. You can order one online for a few dollars off ebay, and wait weeks for it to arrive; or do what i and many others do, which is go to an auto parts store, buy an o ring kit for a few bucks, follow directions to remove your old drive belt, compare its size to your o rings and find the one closest (you may need to stretch the o ring out just a wee bit, i did for mine), slip it into place, re assemble and hit the powah button!
I made a 60 dollar 'for parts' model 1 sega cd work perfectly with this approach, for literally 5 bucks and half an hour of my time. Try it!
Edit; oh my, i did not realize i was responding to an almost decade old post! I hope you found a solution long ago, good sir.

Haha... Did you find this post by searching, or was it lucky enough to be at the bottom of the first page of threads in this particular topic? Just curious. Still, maybe your post will be helpful to others.
We don't see many CD drive belt posts or questions. I think the Famicom Disk System is the most notorious system for failing belts. I wonder if any of your O rings would help with that...

I like the cut of your jib, Former Terraformer. Welcome to the Racketboy forums. Stick around for a while. We are a good group of people with lots of info, and little drama.
