Ok guys, here's what I have:
1.) U.S. Saturn (modded, 4-in-1 cart)
2.) Third-party SCART cable
3.) CVS287 SCART to YUV component converter with equivalent U.S. power brick (Same voltage and layout)
4.) ~1 year old U.S. Dynex TV.
Obviously, I'm trying to get the RGB signal out. However, my TV gives me the oh-so-helpful error "unsupported mode."
I know you can't tell me exactly what my TV is trying to tell me, but can anyone hazard a guess as to why this is working for me? This is my first attempt with RGB and SCART, so I may have overlooked something stupid.
Beyond that, I plan on getting an HD Box Pro to run it through to the TV through VGA later, so might that work even if I can't get this problem fixed?
I appreciate your help. Google and searching the problems didn't turn up anything for me.

I recently talked to the seller of this item, and he said that the converter box only works for PAL-to-PAL video connections. Your TV either needs to be PAL, or support PAL.

By PAL I'm guessing they meant that it only supports a PAL SCART cable which is wired differently from a Japanese RGB cable.lisalover1 wrote:I recently talked to the seller of this item, and he said that the converter box only works for PAL-to-PAL video connections. I have that exact converter and it works fine on my hdtv and my crt tv so its not a pal issue. but using a jp cable could present a problem. however if you didn't buy that cable from japan chances are it's a euro wired scart cable.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:By PAL I'm guessing they meant that it only supports a PAL SCART cable which is wired differently from a Japanese RGB cable.lisalover1 wrote:I recently talked to the seller of this item, and he said that the converter box only works for PAL-to-PAL video connections. hopefully its just the cable and not your tv. do you have access to any other tvs that you can try it on? the only other thing I would try is to hook up another console but you'd also have to buy a scart cable for it..

I'm curious; how did you get audio output from that converter?cyborc wrote:I have that exact converter and it works fine on my hdtv and my crt tv so its not a pal issue. but using a jp cable could present a problem. however if you didn't buy that cable from japan chances are it's a euro wired scart cable.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:By PAL I'm guessing they meant that it only supports a PAL SCART cable which is wired differently from a Japanese RGB cable.lisalover1 wrote:I recently talked to the seller of this item, and he said that the converter box only works for PAL-to-PAL video connections. Re: Saturn RGB -> Component problem: "Unsupported mode"
I modded my systems and added some audio jacks. it was kind of a pain in the ass to do on some of them.

Whatever the problem was, it was solved by this video upscaler.
The only problem I'm facing now is getting audio out. I got this audio breakout adaptor, but it's not doing anything.

Don't mod your systems for audio out... just mod the CSY-2100. I found a great thread on neo-geo.com showing how to add audio to the converter. It's really simple.

I found the cable to be visually unappealing, so I opted for some side-mounted RCA jacks instead. I've also seen it done with a 3.5mm jack.

I'm also considering adding 4 more for RGB + CSync input for a few other systems that have RGB out but no SCART cable (MSX, Super Cassette Vision, etc)

Re: Saturn RGB -> Component problem: "Unsupported mode"
In my case, the breakout box was wired incorrectly. It was a simple matter of rerouting a couple of the pins.
That mod does look simple, though.
