I think Renfield edges out just by being that much more prominent in his movie.

New write-up this week:

Metamorphosis (1990)

Image

An Italian clone of The Fly, but with crappier mutations and a hysterically bad ending. Though the "I need more horror movies to watch at Christmas time" aficionados can rejoice, as the movie does take place during the holiday season, even if all the festivities are meandering aimlessly in the background.

God, I remember watching that movie. And how much I hated it. It makes The Fly II look good.

Not a movie, but I just finished Stephen King's The Stand. Pretty great.

Daughters of Darkness (1971). It is pretty much the best movie ever. So, so trashy and so, so awesome.

New write-up of the week:

Scream of the Wolf (1974)

Image

Very low-budget made for TV thriller/horror from the mid 70s starring Peter Graves. It's got some good ideas, but it wasn't something a lot of time or thought was put into, and it shows. I mean, they were too cheap to even show us footprints in the dirt. That's never a good sign.

Well, I have an excellent idea where this is going.

Couldn't get into that one that much, but Delphine Seyrig was pretty great in it, as usual for her.

If you like those types of horror films then this list is essentia|: https://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/bfis ... ror+films/

From that list pretty much everything Mario Bava made is essential. Jean Rollin is great if you like trash. Viy is one of the most fun I've had seeing a horror film. The White Reindeer should be considered an essential 50s horror. Angst feels out of place there from the other horrors but it is a masterpiece. Just go into it knowing that it is pretty much completely hopeless.

It’s actually really, really good. The opening sequence is stupendous, and it is just a great gothic, vampire film. One of the best I’ve seen, actually. It reminded me somewhat of Sheridan Le Fanu’s Carmilla, thematically. I hope you also enjoy it. (Be warned...it comes and goes from Amazon Prime; so, you may want to watch it for free while you have the chance.)

@pretentioushipster

That’s a good list, my go-to for horror films, however, is this one:

https://www.listchallenges.com/fangoria ... ror-movies

I’ve seen “only” 163 of these; so, I have a ways to go still.

New write up of the week:

Hands of the Ripper

So a couple months ago Ziggy asked about Hammer movies. I'm not sure where this would fit on his rating scale, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. It may be one of the better ones, especially considering some of Hammer's later output.
