If you're short on cash, cheap liquor is far more drinkable than cheap beer. Mix it with soda and you won't even notice.

Speaking of good beer, I was at a small music festival in town here last weekend. They were cool enough to have some Tallgrass beer. Wheat, and IPA. Sweet, I thought, I don't have to drink crap. Of course, they ran out before 6pm.

But I'm pleased. Small, urban, corporate sponsored festivals generally get sponsored by AB or some such. These guys at least recognized the need for quality beer at an event, and the public certainly showed their appetite for quality beer. Hopefully, things are changing.

I went back and got SN Extra IPA which was pretty nice but I prefer the Pale Ale. The Extra IPA is really deep and bold with almost a grapefruit front to it. I could only sip down a couple which isn't a bad thing but if I am going to be in for a six pack it is the Pale Ale all the way.

Still want to try the Celebration Ale when it comes out and the Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA...but $12 for a 4 pack is a little intimidating, it better be some real good beer.

There are no good Micro Breweries in my area so I'm pretty limited to commercial stuff.

PBR is about the only cheap beer I can tolerate beside Yuengling. They have PBR on 75 cent draft at our local Beef 'O Brady's and I can pound those if I'm in the mood. Still it definitey wouldn't be a beer of choice if I wasn't concerned with price. I like to taste a lot of hops in my beer.

I got some Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA the other day and it was delicious but at 12 bucks for a 4 pack I'm not sure I can justify it. It isn't that much better than the Sierra Nevada IPA. I do like the extra kick though, I hate weak beer.


Anyone have a suggestion for a good summer beer? It is smoldering here in FL and I want something that will be nice in the heat. I'm not interested in any of the 2-3% watery crap though. I don't like light beer and there isn't one out there that will change my mind. The Sierra Nevade Summerfest is really nice and it is almost ideal but it is still just a little too hoppy and not quite as crisp as I'd like. I have read that Sweetwater 420 is a nice summer brew, anyone tried it out?

You can't really go wrong with Pacifico for a nice refreshing beer in the sun.

Sweetwater is about a 6 out of 10 for me. Goose Island 312 is an excellent choice for a "summer" beer. It's a wheat beer, but doesn't taste like all the other wheat beers out there; it's actually good.

Unfortunately I haven't seen any of those you recommended anywhere locally. There is a limited craft beer section at grocery and a medium sized craft section at the liquor store but commercial beers are pretty limited to the most basic choices.

When I really think about it the Summerfest is probably the closest thing I will find to suit my tastes. It is still nice and hoppy and it isn't too watered down. It's just a shame it is in the higher price bracket. Still a couple extra bucks for something I like instead of something I can tolerate isn't too bad.

Good beer, but over priced, at least here (9usd before tax(es) a sixer). I do not, I repeat do not like fruity beer, but a lot of my friends like Pyramid Apricot Ale.

If you're really looking for something refreshing, try this:

Buy a bottle of spumante, a pint of strawberry sorbet, some fresh mint, and some fresh strawberries. In a glass, add 1/4 cup sorbet, top it off with the spumante, garnish with mint and fresh strawberries (I add a slice of lime and add a rim of sugar on the glass).

Add a TBSP of vodka and the panties will drop. Mix up different fresh fruits with sorbets. Kiwi with strawberry, mango with blood orange, blueberries with ginger...
