Thats been out quite a while actually.

But the real problem is actually getting a new screen to fit in there. Just not enough room.

Hmm, I wonder if one of those paper-thin OLEDs would work... I wish I was good enough at modding to tear the screen out of my GP2X Wiz and give it a try. I've stumbled on suppliers for bare OLED screens when I was looking for handheld/wristwatch televisions (I only found MP4 Players and wristwatch cellphones).

I've seen a few of them on YouTube with a new screen. So it is possible...

Like I said it is possible to get tv out of a Gamegear. I have yet to see a good or easy way to replace the original screen with a 3.5" screen.

LCD mods have come a long way.

Weirdly I also just watched this and came on here to ask about it. I've been playing a lot of GG games lately via my various clone handhelds and would like to repurchase a real Game Gear.

I can't do any of this technical wizardry but is there anybody selling those types of systems in their modded glory...or are we talking a fortune?

Just how awful do most original Game Gear screens look these days? I don't recall mine being as bad as the one in that video pre-mod.

Check the buy/sell/trade section for modding services. There's multiple modders here.

I think nostalgia goggles let us forget how bad gamegear screens look. I mean...for the day they were pretty good. We didn't have a lot of better options in 1991. Nowadays, we are spoiled on cheap, high quality lcd screens in every phone we see. Even a cheapo $30 cell phone has a brighter screen, better refresh rate, and lower power consumption compared to a game gear.

Plus 25 years of wear and tear don't do any favors for our precious gamegears.
