Re: Bosconian High Score thread
Are you sure? The scores won't be comparable then. The problem is that the 10000/50000 extends appear to be incorrect. MAME fixed this some time ago. I'm not sure what the Namco Museum versions use, but as noted, at least 50th Anniversary already changes the difficulty setting to the "Auto&quo...

Re: Shienryu - Saturn
Greetings. Shienryu is a Japanese vertical shoot 'em up for the Sega Saturn, which is often ignored when people discuss the genre. But in my opinion it is actually one of the really good shmups for the system. Each weapon has its own bomb. The "several wide blue lasers" bomb is for the blu...

Re: Virtual Hydlide for Sega Saturn Review
I feel the need to bump this thread and explain Hydlide as a series, because it's horribly misunderstood in every way. The first Hydlide is not the late-NES game that a certain idiotic publisher made it out to be. It is much much older, predating games like Zelda and Ys by years and inspiring them, ...

Re: Bosconian High Score thread
Well, I'm rediscovering things about the game! To get the no miss bonuses you have to set the game to Auto difficulty, so NM50 probably does that... I wonder if NM1 does too. Note that both the Japanese Namco and the US Midway flyers suggest that difficulty A (medium) is the default. Those same flye...

Re: Bosconian High Score thread
There's also an X68000 version, which is a spot-on port plus an arrange mode with new levels. Not sure if you want to treat the port as separate, or if you want to keep a board for the arrange mode, etc. Despatche - 166,760 - Round 10 - ShmupMAME v3.0b I'd say I'm a fan of Bosconian... not very good...

Re: Tempest 2000...THIS is the great Atari Jaguar game??
I really wish I had a Vita, and a Nuon for that matter. I'd like to try 3000 and TxK, I'm sure they're at least a little better than 2000.

Re: Maybe games just aren't the medium for truly great stori
Bump. It's already been covered countless times by now, but I guess I've got some words too. You can do all kinds of neat storytelling with video games. The problem is that big developers don't want "video games", they want some bizarre interactive movie/novel hybrid-thing that tries to re...

Re: When Does a Console Die?
A console dies when the manufacturer stops "supporting" it. Anything else is a growth. Vector graphics could totally be done again. On one hand, people think they've "moved on" past things like that, because at some point everything has to "die" and become "retro&q...

The only neat-looking unmentioned Saturn fighter I know of is Rabbit.
Unless those Technosoft mech games count.
Hm.

Re: Tempest 2000...THIS is the great Atari Jaguar game??
It is the year 2014 and it is time to examine a trend. Mega bump and post incoming. The PC version has some bad bugs - like not registering your score correctly and the Bot just doing what it wants. I have never seen the first bug, and I haven't seen how AI Droid behavior is any different from the J...
